TYGA - The DOPE MAG Interview
June 13, 2012 No commentsEditor-At-Large Andrea Aguilar interviewed Hip Hop Star TYGA for his DOPE Magazine Exclusive
Here is an Excerpt from the Full Length Interview
(Andrea Aguilar: AA) You worked at (clothing store) Up Against the Wall in the Fox Hills Mall, right?
(Tyga: TYGA) Yeah! That’s crazy. When I was like 14 that was my first job. Well, that was like my only job I ever had…Yeah, then I met Travie. I gave him my CD. He had AIM, so I would just AIM him every now and then or whatever. He’s like “I’m on tour,” and then he was like, “I want you to come out.” I came out, saw him perform and learned about the business firsthand. It was just a whole experience just to travel like that and just to see people go crazy everywhere every night, and I knew that was something I wanted to do.
(AA) What’s a little-known fact about Wayne, Nicki and Drake you can share with us?
(Tyga) Nicki is wild. Nicki has like crazy personality. She’s like a little kid in a grown woman’s body. She’s real cool. Real fun, like a cartoon though.
Wayne. He’s real relaxed. He might not say a lot, but when he starts talking, he’ll start talking a whole lot.
Drake…Drake is really chill. He’s a real perfectionist though. He takes everything too seriously. I think it’s something about being Canadian too. Being Canadian… their whole culture is different than ours. I think that has a lot to do with it.
(AA) I read that you’re talking to kids on the F.A.M.E. tour, letting them know they have the potential to have careers outside of music.
(Tyga) Yeah, I gotta program called R.O.A.R. which means Reaching Out And Representing. Basically, I’m going to every high school in every city on the F.A.M.E. tour. I’m giving kids certificates, tickets to shows, paying for about 35 college applications to motivate kids and really let them know you never know who’s watching. Because, like, when I was younger going to school, nobody really told me I had to go to school, and I really didn’t know what I was going to school for. I just was going because that’s what you had to do. There’s a lot of kids who go to school and really feel like they don’t get nothing from it at this point even though they will later on in life. Just acknowledging them and letting them know, “Hey, one of your favorite rappers is
(AA) What’s the production like on Careless World?
(Tyga) It’s amazing. I produced most of the music with my producer Jess Jackson. It’s a real story, you know what I mean? So when people hear it, they’re gonna be real amazed. It has narration. It’s like a story book. Careless World is basically the name of the world that I made up in my head and I created. And you know, basically, it’s the rise of me becoming the king…like the president in our modern day or whatever. It’s a great album. I got everything from seven minute songs to smooth R&B type songs on there.
