Sexual liberation is an appealing inbound call for social justice from the self-reliant stance of physical freedom and all things equality. Bed-Stuy Brooklyn based femcee Miss Eaves‘ latest release, “Hump Day”, the lead single from the artist’s soon-to-be-sold Feminasty album, is an anthemic pledge of allegiance to self-induced orgasms, the man-less variety of masturbate mastery where a woman owes the gratifying kudos for the intensity of intercourse only to herself. While stigma holds that an orgasm attained through sole proprietorship rather than partnership is not good business, Eaves argues that providing oneself pleasure, whether out of isolated necessity or the confidence found in independence, is a good way to incorporate the immediacies of happiness and release into the moment. Her song essentially offers an update to Nike’s ubiquitous swoosh slogan: Just Do It, replacing it with - just do it… yourself. That’s D-I-Y for those of you following at home. The impeccant singularity of hump day standing for simply another boring mid-week workday is no more.

Thematically, “Hump Day” is in philosophical proximity to lipstick feminism and its girl power positives, while somewhere in the same cause community as sex-positive power talk. A refreshingly catchy lyrical drive down an earbud filling bass track, the glad attitude freestyle goes on a content tangent that begs to differ with the confining social conventions often inhibiting conversation surrounding women’s sexuality with de facto rules and regulations of class translated conservatism. Eaves, the fun designer, Every Body Project blogger, and swirling-curls rapper who lives to perform live, effectively takes a topic of libertine minority and adjusts it with a bit of lust, like a sex seamstress outfitting any women who wear her boldly boutique societal standards. And in so doing cleverly repurposing words and roles like handmaiden, hump day, and self-love. If shock is indeed valuable, “Hump Day” is worth its weight in gold, though you might see a mannequin in the remix.
