KARO Swimwear - Driven by Design


KARO Swimwear’s ambitious CEO and Head of Design, Poland native Kasia Roginska, sat down with executive editor ToneSwep to share her insights on the fashion industry, explain what the swimwear game is missing, and give a sneak peek into what’s to come from the refreshingly artistic beach glam line that dares to be authentic.

(ToneSwep: TS) KARO Swimwear recently launched a new collection. Talk a little about the new line. Seems younger, edgier, more risky than last year’s line.

(Kasia Roginska: KARO) KARO recently added two new collections. One is named “beach is a runway” and it’s a collection made to the order. This collection includes many fun, chic styles for broader clientele than the original itsy-bitsy couture line. It has a selection of bikinis, monokinis and elegant one pieces. All designs still include some type of jewels in each style. The second new collection that I’ve added is an “online boutique” and it’s pretty much a combination of various designs that are pre-made in Brazil and hand-beaded or bejeweled by myself. These are currently in stock and available to purchase.

(TS) What inspires the various designs for the KARO collection? What motivates you, as creator, to develop such a diverse color and style palate?

(KARO) It’s very difficult to answer this question as all of the designs are born spontaneously. I just love bright, fun, bold colors and prints as well as the beauty of natural stones and jewels. When I sit down to design, I grab all of my favorites and create until there’s no more ideas or time left. Sometimes things come into my mind and then I’m already knowing what I have to make. It’s all spontaneous. It’s art, really.

(TS) As a designer, what do you see as the unsatisfied needs and wants from the current bikinis on sale? How does KARO supply these demands?

(KARO) Honestly, I love originality and I believe fashion has changed so much. There’s no more originality. One brand comes up with something, five minutes later every single competitor has something similar. I’m trying to come up with unique pieces, almost too complicated to give people ideas. I create what I call bitsy fashion statements for pool parties, cruises, or vacation places where beach beauties would love to show off in something that not everyone has. I remember once I wore VS bikini and on the same beach I saw two other girls wearing the exact same thing. Yes when line produced, it happens, but that just made me want to create something more unique (Laughs!).

(TS) How would you describe the fashion industry? As outsiders looking in we know it to be fiercely competitive and extremely expensive.

(KARO) In general, yes, it is competitive and it is expensive. But I believe in sticking to originality and quality. Unfortunately, many brands are going into mass producing which I think looses on those two so important necessities of a good, authentic, reliable, and trusted brand. I believe good brands come up with new styles to surprise customers and keep them interested while providing the best quality possible. KARO will also be launching a total new line in 2016 and it will be something a bit different. It will be a surprise! Can’t spill it out just yet!

(TS) You recently added men’s wear to the KARO line. Talk a little about this new extension to the brand, and also share with us what we can expect next from KARO - without giving away your 2016 top secrets.

(KARO) yes, KARO men’s beach boxers are color blocked designs that look semi close to underwear but are made of spandex, printed and solid mixed together and have decorative, contrasting fun stitching to look like sexy underwear but are fully lined and have a fun elastic KARO logo for both style and support. Their will be more items in our men’s wear available soon.
