(Tone Swep: TS) You recently dropped the “Why You Mad” single, released on iTunes earlier this month. What has been the reception so far?

(NU) I have been getting awesome reception from here in the U.S. and overseas. Most of the downloads have come from Australia and the UK.

(TS) Has J. Cole altered the perception of North Carolina artists in Hip Hop? You have Little Brother on some underground consciousness; Petey Pablo was in the clubs. Small World had flow when he was out. What’s your take on how North Cack is viewed in Hip Hop, and where you fit into that mix?

(NU) I personally feel as though I don’t fit into any category. I’m a rebel. I create my own genre but as far as others such as J. Cole, Small World and Petey - North Carolina men’s swag varies, and I think it shows through the different artists that make it in the industry. You’ll find that trapstar, college dude, and backpack rapper all in the same club. North Carolina is a state that attracts many people with different backgrounds.

(TS) Talk a little about “Red Carpet Ready”, the theme of the project, meaning behind the title, and what we can expect to hear in terms of production and songwriting.

(NU) Red Carpet Ready is my first project. It is my introduction to the music industry and exactly what it says - I’m here and I’m Ready for the Red Carpet. You can expect to hear club bangers, love songs, and real personal records; it’s my story thus far. As far as production I’ve been working with Bolo da Producer in Atlanta as well as other local producers in NC like Crystal Pat, Lil Rob, Knoxx Live, and CJ Base so you can expect a very different sound, like no other, and I write all my songs.

(TS) You recently signed to Rebel View Records. How did the deal come together? What is the focus of you and your team, the vision for your career?

(NU) The deal came together because my manager Lizzie P. of BCM Management Agency had been speaking to different venture investors about backing my first project. Once Rebel View Records heard the quality of my music they were instantly interested in signing me. The focus is on finishing my album Red Carpet Ready, building a fan base, and booking shows. My vision is limitless. I’m just ready for takeoff.
